District SEL Coordinator, Bridgeport Public Schools,
Carrie serves as the Bridgeport Public Schools’ (BPS) SEL Coordinator in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She co-chairs the District SEL Task Force, works with BPS district leadership, school administrators, staff, students, families and community partners to develop, implement and sustain Restorative Practices and the RULER Approach to increase Cultural Competence, Emotional Intelligence and Trauma Informed Practices throughout the district and Bridgeport community. Prior to her current role, she taught middle and high school English and was the Social Emotional Learning Leader at Waltersville School in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Carrie has secured grants, donations and scholarships to fund various Social Emotional Learning Initiatives and academic endeavors. She promotes authentic learning experiences that build character, amplify student voice and provide opportunities for students to expand their knowledge and better their community. Carrie has presented nationally and internationally about Social Emotional Learning and how the Bridgeport Public School district is working to address the needs of the whole learner. She is also a Partner Teacher for The Character Connections Initiative (TCCI), a 2018-2019 ChangeMaker II fellow at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence (YCEI) and served on the board of Adversity to Prosperity (A2P) as the Fundraising Director.
Carrie earned a M.S. Ed. in Secondary English from the University of Bridgeport and a B.S. in English with a Concentration in Communications and Minor in Criminal Justice from Sacred Heart University. She also holds a Graduate Certificate in Restorative Practices from the International Institute for Restorative Practices (IIRP) and has two training licensures: Introduction to Restorative Practices & Utilizing Circles Effectively and Facilitating Restorative Conferences.
