Director of Performing and Visual Arts,
Bridgeport Public Schools
Alicia began her career as a music educator in Bridgeport Public Schools after graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Bridgeport with a Master’s Degree in Education, Concentration in Music. She acquired her Sixth-Year Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership at Sacred Heart University.
In her eight years as a music educator, Alicia met the needs of her diverse learners by creating kinesthetic, social, and collaborative learning experiences through arts and technology integration. She also supported arts and non-arts classroom teachers with arts integration implementation through modeling, coaching, and co-teaching. Her commitment to excellence in arts education led her to be selected as a 2016 recipient of the Theodore and Margaret Beard Excellence in Teaching Award. In her current role, Alicia strives to ensure all students receive a high-quality, culturally responsive arts education with access to arts-based programming both during and after school.
By securing community partnerships, donations, and grants for the district’s art and music programs, she has been able to increase arts equity and access for Bridgeport Public School students, thus helping to narrow opportunity gap that is prevalent in Fairfield County and across the state of CT.
Passionate about volunteerism, Alicia is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She also serves on the Advisory Committee for the Bridgeport Public Art Fund and is a Steering Committee member for the Fairfield County Community Foundation’s Fund for Women and Girls. Alicia is a Bridgeport resident and a proud mother of her fifteen-year-old daughter, Destiny.
